Founded in 2016, Nurturing Roots Farm is a community farming program focused on providing affordable, sustainable alternatives to high-end grocery markets for families living in the Beacon Hill community. Designers Stephanie Onuaja and Choua Vang worked with Sawhorse Program Director Sam Schultz to draft out a large kitchen / outdoor shelter space for Nurturing Roots, to be built by a team of all women and nonbinary staff, mentors, and students.

In the summer and fall of 2021, Sam led a crew to build this gorgeous pavilion, through heat and rain. This project was our first return to small, outdoors, masked, and socially-distanced builds with students after the pandemic shutdown.
