Fundamentals of Design

Drawings and program and sections, oh my! In response to coronavirus shutdowns, Sawhorse programs went fully remote in 2020.  Our mentors and staff responded beautifully by offering 40+ hours of programmatic content, doing a deep dive into architecture, studio style.

Each student received a personal take-home architecture supply kit, and worked in small online breakout groups with fabulous mentors to learn to see the world through the eyes of a designer. Our goal was to share an understanding of architecture’s role in the current global climate, and how design is used to problem solve the needs of human beings. The team studied non-western-centric architecture, built scale models, and imagined design interventions in our own neighborhoods.
