PROJECTS
Boat Camp
SR’s first boat build went off with out a hitch in the summer of 2022, thanks to the support of our community partners. The Wood Technology Center provided us with amazing shop and classroom space and their college-level boat-building program was the source for most of our mentors. Our fellow nonprofit Center for Wooden Boats provided their strongback and molds for us to build the boat on, as well as plenty of moral support. Students hailed from all over the Seattle area, coming from as far north as Shoreline and as far south as Rainier Beach HS.
After several intensive weeks of building (and lots of magic from our knowledgable mentors) the boat was delivered to Heron’s Nest Outdoor Education Camp. Our enthusiastic students and mentors took the boat out for a test paddle on the water – a new and exciting moment for us at Sawhorse! Volunteers with Heron’s Nest will be using the boat to remove trash from the Duwamish River.
