The Hub

“The Hub” is a much-needed security booth for a Seattle homeless encampment, designed and built by high school youth in Sawhorse Revolution’s all-women’s program. The 2016-17 school year team, consisting of seventeen high school girls and six local professionals, took on the creation of a security booth for Nickelsville Othello, a city-sanctioned homeless community in Seattle.

Students practiced a professional design-and-build process – they first conducted interviews with the Nickelsville community members to inform their design, then designed the structure with mentorship from local architects, then built the structure and installed it at Nickelsville guided by local carpenters and builders.
