LMN Architects x Summit Sierra Public Schools Expedition

In the Spring of 2025, Sawhorse Revolution and LMN Architects joined the youth of Summit Sierra on an expedition exploring architectural fabrication shop technology, including 3D design renderings and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) routing! Over the course of two weeks, the students designed and built a modular storage tool system for Sawhorse builders to transport tools for community-led construction projects.

Youth tried their hands at 3D modeling using Rhino architectural software, laid out possible designs with blue tape on the floor, and eventually cut and assembled two modular, stackable plywood box kits to haul Sawhorse tools onto the jobsite. As one student shared, “I like that we’re building something that will be used – that motivates more people because we have a goal.” Sawhorse uses the CNC boxes made by Summit Sierra youth in our mobile building kits!

Huge thank you to our long-time partners at LMN Architects, especially The Shop experts, Hank Butitta and Sierra Morin!
