Teahouse – Summer Camp

For our 2016 edition of Sawhorse Summer Camp, we split students into two teams. One half worked on a kiosk for the Seattle Waterfront; the other half built a mysterious Taoist-style Teahouse overlooking a creek at Smoke Farm.

Complete with shou-sougi-ban style siding (the Japanese art of charring cedar), this structure has a quiet porch, screens to keep the bugs out, and furniture custom designed and built by students. Members of the Smoke Farm community have already held tea drinking ceremonies inside this little hut – its the perfect spot to contemplate the natural world.
